Country Western Bedroom Decorating Ideas
Western Home Decor
Western Home Decor. Decorating ideas for a western, rustic or country style home.
I really enjoy the beauty of western decor. Some people are fortunate enough to be able to build a home from the ground up incorporating western styling into the design.
Then there are lots of folks like me who love to decorate the home we have using a combination of old and new finds that satisfy our desire for a western look and feel throughout the house, in selected rooms and even outside.
Western Decorating Ideas
There are several ways that you can accomplish a western look and it is going to depend on what your taste are. Western stuff has been around a long time so you may favor an old west style, vintage western, Southwest, cowboy, cowgirl or horse theme or just want to bring a little of the country life inside.
Look In The Barn
Find old western tack such as ropes, bridles, harnesses, horseshoes, spurs and boots to use as they are or to make or enhance other decorations. Items like these shown in the pictures are some that I sold on E-bay after we cleaned out the barn one day and planned to get rid of a lot of old stuff that we would never use again. Some of the stuff was still usable and other pieces were strictly good for decorating. You can look for things like this one-bay or other classified ads and at flea markets.
Barnwood
Barnwood is also very popular and looks good made into furniture and home accessories or as a replacement for paneling.
Use Texture Or The Look Of Texture
There are familiar textures or prints that lend themselves to a western look. Leather, for example, is a good place to start if you are planning to purchase or even recover furniture. If you like the leather look, but don't have the budget for real leather or prefer not to use real leather, there is faux leather and leather print on fabric that you can use.
Using Western prints and Southwest prints on fabrics is a quick and easy way to turn things you already have. like throw pillows, into something new.
Stop by my western fabrics page and see some of the designs that I have available. Along with rodeo events and western themes you will find leather prints, barn wood prints, burlap print and other country style textures printed on fabric.
Cow skulls and horns are often used in western decorating also. Here are pictures of one an old cow head that is out in the yard at my house. I painted several of these and also used some loose horns to make centerpieces.

Burlap
Burlap, well I used to call it a feed sack, looks great in a country home. Sometimes it is made into wreaths and other floral arrangements. You may also like the look of it on a throw pillow or table runner.
Burlap looks good as it is or you can add seasonal flower picks or ornaments to dress it up for different occasions. 22" Burlap Wreath | Get instructions and materials to make a burlap wreath here. |
Western Rugs and Wall Hangings
Cow hide rugs or other Southwest themed rugs and blankets can be used on the floor of course, but also for wall hangings. I used small blankets at one time as a runner on my coffee table , on my dresser and over the back of the sofa for a quick change up.
Western Curtains
Curtains or drapes instead of blinds can spruce up any room.
Western art on canvas or prints is widely available.
Hand stenciled borders or wall paper with rope and other western symbols are not that hard to do yourself.
Western Metal Art
Western metal art looks good used in a number of ways. There are laser cut steel western figures in all shapes and sizes that can be used indoors or out.
Barbed Wire Used To Make Decorations
Barbed wire, as you can imagine, is a little prickly to work with, but it is an inexpensive way to add a western touch.

Country Kitchen Decorating ideas
There are many ways to country up your kitchen. Sunflowers always seem to make me feel like there is country in the air. Some people have a mix of different but somehow related items on the walls, on decorative towels and rugs. Others tend to go with one main theme like red chili peppers, horses, leather prints, black and white cow print, but still have other accents as well.
